Smith Wins 200-Free at PSAC Championships
Day Three Results
MECHANICSBURG -- Bloomsburg University women's swimmer Dianna Smith (West Grove/Avon Grove) won the 200-yard freestyle to lead the Huskies on day three of the 2007 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Swimming (PSAC) Championships.
Smith took first place in an NCAA "A" cut time of 1:52.96, exactly one second off of the school record held by Joan Wojtowicz. Also in the 200-free, Allie Reed (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) finished eighth in a time of 1:57.43.
In other finals action, the women's 800-yard freestyle relay team of Smith, Reed, Ashley Yelinek (Youngwood/Southmoreland), and Courtney Dean (Lancaster/Hempfield) took third place in a time of 7:51.67 to earn All-PSAC honors. The men's 800-free relay team also competed in the finals, taking sixth place in 7:18.78. Team members were freshmen David Mancinelli (Plymouth Meeting/Westmont Hilltop), Kyle Weisenbach (Avon Grove/Lincoln University), Dereck Fritz (Stevens/Ephrata), and sophomore Steve Withers (Doylestown/Central Bucks West).
After three days of competition, the women's team is in fifth place with 200 points while the men's team is in seventh place with 130 points.
The championships wrap up tomorrow with the preliminary races beginning at 10:00 a.m. Due to severe weather warnings, the time of the finals has been moved up to 5:00 p.m.
