Bloomsburg Swimming to Compete at Nationals

BLOOMSBURG- The Bloomsburg University women's swim team had four members qualify for the NCAA Division II Championships to be held in Buffalo, NY March 14 - 17th.

The 400-free relay team of Dianna Smith (West Grove/Avon Grove), Allie Reed (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove), Courtney Dean (Lancaster/Hempfield), and Jackie Gribbin (Richboro/Council Rock North) qualified for the NCAA meet at the PSAC Championship with a time of 3:32.81. The team has the eighth best time in the country.

Smith has also qualified individually in the 200-free (1:52.96) at the Akron Invitational and is currently ranked sixth in the nation. She will also compete in the 50-free (24.44) and 100-free (52.31).

Reed and Dean have also qualified in individual events at the championships. They will both compete in the 100-free; Reed is seeded in a time of 53.49, while Dean is seeded with a time of 54.05. Reed will also compete in the 200-free, with a seed time of 1:56.94.

The relay team will also compete in the 200 yard medley and the 200- and 800- free relay.

Last season, Smith finished 13th in the 200-free and 11th in the 100-free and earned honorable mention All-American honors at the 2006 NCAA Championships.
