Bloomsburg Swim Teams at Akron Invitational
Day One Finals
AKRON, OH--The Bloomsburg University men and women's swim teams are competing at the Akron Invitational. After day one of the three day event, the men's team is in eighth place with 180 points, while the women's team is in ninth with 102 points.
On the men's side, Joe Bentz (York/York Suburban) was the top finisher for the Huskies taking seventh in the 500-free event in a time of 4:52.40. Also, in the 500-free, Steve Withers (Chalfton/Central Bucks West) was 16th in 4:58.51. In the 200 IM, Tyler DeLorenzo (State College/State College) finished 15th with a time of 2:02.83.
In the men's 200-free relay, the team of DeLorenzo, David Manicelli (Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop), Juan Castaneda (Shamokin/Shamokin) and Derek Straub (Sinking Spring/Wilson) took eighth in 1:27.50.
In the 400-medley relay, DeLorenzo, Castaneda, Bentz and Withers were 13th in 3:41.03, while the team of Straub, Tom Runscavage (Shavertown/Dallas), Mike Williams (Lower Moreland/Lower Moreland) and Derek Fritz (Stevens/Ephrata) were 15th in 3:43.77.
On the women's side, Dianna Smith (West Grove/Avon Grove) was the top finisher for Bloomsburg with a 12th-place finish in the 50-free in 24.69 seconds. In the 400-medley relay, Ashley Carroll (Mohrsville/Shuylkill Valley), Lisa Ferrigno (West Chester/Bishop Shanahan), Sara Hippeli (Quakertown/Quakertown) and Smith were 14th in 4:09.57
In the 200-free relay, the Huskies finished 13th in a time of 1:41.46 featuring the team of Laura McNair (Duncansville/Hollidaysburg), Allie Reed (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove), Nicole Chinnici (Vineland, NJ/Vineland) and Smith.
