Huskies Swim in Florida

PORT ORANGE, FL-- The Bloomsburg University men's and women's swim teams took part in the Port Orange Invitational last weekend in Florida with the women finishing third and the men sixth.

In women's 200-free event, Dianna Smith (West Grove/Avon Grove) finished second with a time of 2:00.31, while Allie Reed (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) was third in 2:01.47. In the 50-free, Smith was fourth in 26.22, while Reed was sixth in 26:45. Reed also was sixth in the 100-free in 56.42 seconds. In the 500-free, Sara Hippelli (Quakertown/Quakertown) was third in 5:38.22, while Jessie Gribbin (Richboro/Council Rock North) was sixth in 5:40.30.

In the 200-backstroke, Emily Stiles (Lansdale/North Penn) was third in 2:22.43, while in the 200-breast, Kellie Ayres (Gilbertsville/Boyertown) took third in 2:38.35 with Lisa Ferrigno (West Chester/Bishop Shanahan) fourth in 2:40.70. Ferrigno was also seventh in the 200IM in 2:23.65. In the 100-backstrokre, Ashley Carroll (Mohrsville/Schuylkill Valley) was seventh in 1:06.55.

In relay action, the 200-medley relay team of Carroll, Ayres, Michelle Wesh (Pittsgrove, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy) and Laura McNair (Duncansville/Hollidaysburg) were sixth in 2:07.74. In the 200-free relay, Reed, Amy Usciak (Lancaster/Hempfield), Ferrigno and Smith finished third in 1:46.48.

For the men, John King (Ridley Park/Ridley) was sixth in the 500-free in a time of 5:09.25, with Steve Withers (Chlafont/Central Bucks East) eighth in 5:14.74. In the 200-fly, Ben Safran (Doylestown/Central Bucks West) was 12th in 2:18.81, while in the 200-backstroke, Tyler DeLorenzo (State College/State College) was ninth in 2:14.31. In relay action the Huskies were sixth in the 200-free in 1:34.65 with the team of David Mancinelli (Johnstown/Westmonth Hilltop), Derek Straub (Sinking Spring/Wilson), DeLorenzo and Juan Casteneda (Shamokin/Shamokin).
