BLOOMSBURG-Bloomsburg University freshman swimmer Madeline Barlow (Yardley/Pennsbury) will compete in the 2010 NCAA Division II Swimming Championships in Canton, OH being held Wednesday through Sunday.
It has been quite a year for Barlow. She broke the school record in the 200-IM and the 200-backstroke during at the Zippy Invitational in December. In the 200 IM at the Zippy, she swam a time of 2:07.19 taking home first place and in the process broke a 24-year old school record held by Gwen Cressman, who swam a time of 2:08.56 back in 1985. Her time was an NCAA "A" cut time automatically qualifying her for the NCAA championship meet.
She also achieved NCAA "B" cut times in the 200-back and 100-fly in the same meet with her 200-back time of 2:05.82 also being a school record. Because she qualified for one event NCAA event with an "A" time, she is permitted to swim in both the 200-back and 100-fly with the "B" standard times.
Barlow is ranked 11th nationally in the 200-IM, 21st in the 200-back and 29th in the 100-fly. Her attempt at earning All-American status (a top 8 finish) will begin Wednesday when she swims the 200-IM. She'll follow up with the 100-fly on Thursday and the 200-back on Saturday.
