Bloomsburg University Women's Tennis Team to Play in NCAA Championships

BLOOMSBURG—Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team will travel to the Division II East Regional Tennis Championships, to be held on the campus of West Liberty State College, in West Liberty, West Virginia this Friday and Saturday, May 4-5.

The event will feature Bloomsburg University, West Liberty State, Wingate University and the University of Charleston (West Virginia). The championships will start at noon on Friday, when top-seeded West Liberty will play number four Charleston (WV) in the first semifinal match, while second-seeded Bloomsburg and third-seeded Wingate will square off at 3 p.m. in the second semifinal match. The winners of the semifinals will meet on Saturday at 10 a.m. for the NCAA Division II Eastern Regional Championship. The winner of the Eastern Regional moves on to the NCAA Division II Championship Round to be held May 10-13 in Pensacola, Florida, on the campus of the University of West Florida.

West Liberty enters play with a record of 17-6, while Wingate and Charleston (WV) have records of 14-9 and 15-5, respectively.

Bloomsburg will enter the tournament with a record of 12-6, after the team finished second at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships held on April 21-22 and beat Bucknell on the road, 7-2, on April 26.

The Huskies are led by sophomore Beth Fulton (Nesquehoning/Tamaqua), who enters play with a record of 16-6, primarily at number two singles. Fulton will be helped out by teammates Jenn Esposito (Lock Haven/Lock Haven), number four or five singles, and Erin Bartsch (Warren/Warren), number one singles, who have records of 15-8 and 14-5, respectively.

Sophomore Miranda Campbell (Woodbine, NJ/Middle Twp.) enters the action with a record of 14-9, primarily played at number five singles. Junior Katie Kochera (Bethel/Tulpehocken) will play number three singles for Bloomsburg. She enters play with a record of 12-8 on the season.
