Bloomsburg Women's Tennis Excels at ITA East RegionalBLOOMSBURG— Bloomsburg University's women's tennis team had a successful outing at the ITA East Regional Tournament hosted by Bloomsburg, September 28-30. The East Regionals produced two champions and two finalists for the Huskies. Erin Bartsch (Warren/Warren) led the way for the Huskies, finishing second in the A-Singles. Bartsch won four straight matches before falling in the finals to champion Kylene Wong of Concordia College, 6-4, 6-3. Bartsch won her first round match 6-0, 6-0 over Cynthia Garibaldi of Concordia and her second round match 6-1, 6-0 over Kelly Anderson of Slippery Rock. In the quarterfinals, she defeated Alison Hughes of Mercyhurst 7-5, 6-0 before winning her semifinal match 6-2, 6-0 over Ella Reilly of Slippery Rock. The A-Doubles team of Bartsch and Miranda Campbell (Woodbine, NJ/Middle Township) had similar success, winning three matches before losing in the finals to the Slipper Rock team of Reilly and Anderson, 8-4. After a first round bye, Bartsch and Campbell defeated Wong and Jillian Gallagher of Concordia 8-3 in the second round and won 8-5 over Ashley Michaux and Jessie Bungo of Slippery Rock in the quarterfinals. The Bloomsburg A-team went on to defeat Hilary Cornelius and Kristina Eger of Millersville 8-2 in the semifinals. Freshman Lauren Colfer (Philadelphia/St. Basil Academy) won the B-Singles title for the Huskies, winning her finals match by default. After a first round bye, Colfer defeated Lisa Spatz of Millersville 6-3, 7-5 in the second round and won 6-0, 6-0 over Chanelle Tekaaho of Adelphi in the third round. In the quarterfinals, Colfer won a tough match 2-6, 6-2, 10-7 in the deciding tie-breaker over Tori Trombetta of Mercyhurst, before winning 6-2, 6-4 over Allison Brewer of Millersville in her semifinal match. The B-Doubles team of Julianne Bramante (Endwell, NY/Union-Endicott) and Brande Hansteen (Wyncote/Cheltenham) won the doubles title for Bloomsburg winning 9-8 in the finals over Karen Chang and Juliettre Apostolo of Queens. After a first round bye, they defeated the Millersville team 8-1 in the second round and won 8-3 over Emily Pollak and Aimee Cavanaugh of Bentley in the quarterfinals. Bramante and Hansteen won their semifinal match 9-7 over Caroline Secher and Laura Atwater of Shippensburg. The Huskies will next host Millersville, October 15 at 3 p.m.
