Bloomsburg Women's Tennis Advances in NCAA Tournament
BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team advanced to round two of the Division II NCAA tournament, after beating California (PA), 5-1, on Friday afternoon in Bloomsburg.
The Huskies, 12-5, led the match 2-1 after doubles play and picked up three easy singles victories for the win. Erin Bartsch (Warren/Warren) dominated the number-one singles spot, winning 6-1, 6-1. Miranda Campbell (Cape May, NJ/Middle Township) followed up at number-two with a 6-3, 6-2 victory, while Brande Hansteen (Wyncote/Cheltenham) cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 victory at number-six.
In doubles play, the team of Bartsch and Campbell earned an easy, 6-1, 6-1 victory at the number one spot. At number-three, the team of Lauren Colfer (Philadelphia/St. Basil Academy) and Hansteen rounded out the doubles play with an 8-5 victory.
With the win, the Huskies advance to round two of the NCAA Regionals to take on Millersville, Saturday starting at 9 a.m. Millersville, 12-3, defeated Stonehill College, 5-0 Friday afternoon at Bloomsburg.
