Women's Tennis Picks Up Wins Over Georgian Court and NJIT

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team improved its record to 11-4 on the season with wins over Georgian Court and NJIT on Saturday

In the 7-2 win over Georgian Court, the Huskies jumped out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles. At second doubles, Julianne Bramante (Endwell, NY/Union-Endicott) and Lindsey Wyckoff (North Canton, OH/Hoover) got an 8-0 win over the Lions, while Lauren Colfer (Philadelphia/St. Basil Academy) and Brande Hansteen (Wyncote/Cheltenham won by the same score at third doubles. At number one doubles, Iida Hokkanen (Helsinki, Finland) and Emily Murphy (Montgomery/Methacton) defeated Georgian Court, 8-1.

In singles, the Huskies dominated the three, four, five and six positions. At three, Murphy cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win, while at number four Hansteen didn't allow her opponent to win a game getting a 6-0, 6-0 victory. At fifth and sixth, Colfer and Jaclyn Kelly (Havertown/Haverford) won 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-0, respectively.

In the second match of the day, the Huskies cruised to a 9-0 win over NJIT, losing only nine games as a team. In the doubles, Hokkanen and Murphy got an 8-1 win, while at two, Bramante and Wyckoff won, 8-2. Hansteen and Colfer rolled to an 8-0 win over NJIT at third doubles.

In singles, no player dropped more than two games as Hokkanen and Bramante got identical 6-1, 6-1 wins at the one and two positions, while Wyckoff and Murphy both blanked out their opponents 6-0, 6-0 at third and fourth singles. At five, Colfer got a 6-0, 6-1 win,while Kelly won, 6-1, 6-0 at six.

The Huskies will be back in action on Wednesday, April 21, when they host Division I opponent, Bucknell at 4:00 p.m.
