Women's Tennis Wraps Up Trip with Win Over Carnegie Mellon

HILTON HEAD, SC—The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team completed its spring break trip with a 7-2 win over Carnegie Mellon on Friday.

The match began with doubles where the Huskies jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the match. At number one, Iida Hokkanen (Helsinki, Finland) and Emily Murphy (Montgomery/Methacton) won a tight 9-8 match, winning in a tiebreaker, 7-2. Julianne Bramante (Endwell, NY/Union-Endicott) and Lindsey Wyckoff (North Canton, OH/Hoover), at second doubles, took a 5-0 lead en route to a 8-2 win. At third doubles, Brande Hansteen (Wyncote/Cheltenham) and Jaclyn Kelly (Havertown/Haverford) fell, 8-4, to Carnegie Mellon.

The Huskies also won five of the six singles matches in the win. At first singles, Hokkanen got a 7-5, 7-6 (4) win, while at second singles Bramante won in a third-set replacing super tiebreaker, finishing with a score of 1-6, 6-0, 10-4. Wyckoff, at third singles, won 7-5, 6-4, while Murphy also played a tiebreaker for the first set, winning 7-6 (4), 6-2. Hansteen rounded out the singles wins with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at sixth singles. In the fifth position, Lauren Colfer (Philadelphia/St. Basil Academy) fought back after losing the first set, 6-0, falling in a close 7-5 second set.

Bloomsburg, now 3-4, will host its first home match on Saturday, March 20, against Lehigh at noon.
