Women’s Tennis Sweeps Doubles To Get Past Shippensburg

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team wrapped up its regular-season conference play with a 7-2 win over Shippensburg on Thursday. With the win, the Huskies move to 10-4, overall, and 6-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).

In doubles action the team of Lauren Colfer (Philadelphia/St. Basil Academy) and Brande Hansteen (Wyncote/Cheltenham at third doubles, and Julianne Bramante (Endwell, NY/Union-Endicott) and

Lindsey Wyckoff (North Canton, OH/Hoover) at second, breezed to 8-2, and 8-0 wins, respectively. At first doubles, the freshmen tandem of Iida Hokkanen (Helsinki, Finland) and Emily Murphy (Montgomery/Methacton) fell in a tiebreaker, losing 9-8 (7-4) to Shippensburg.

In singles, the Huskies won five of six matches to clinch the win. Murphy cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at fourth singles, while at three, Wyckoff got a 6-1, 6-2 win. At five and six, Hansteen and Colfer got 6-3, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-1 wins, respectively. At first singles, Hokkanen rebounded after losing the first set in a tiebreaker to win 6-3 in the second and 10-6 in the third set-replacing tiebreaker.

The Huskies will play two dual matches this Saturday, taking on Georgian Court at 10:00 a.m. and playing NJIT immediately following the first match.
