BLOOMSBURG-- Three members of the Bloomsburg University women's tennis team have been named All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division for the 2008 season.
Named the PSAC East Women's Player of the Year was Katie Hasyn (Lansdale/North Penn), while Hasyn and Torie Cunningham (Greentown, NY/Harbor Fields) were named All-PSAC in singles play. In doubles play, Hasyn and Brittani Weeks (Hawley/Wallenpaupack) were also named All-PSAC.
Hasyn, a sophomore, posted a record of 9-8 for the Huskies at number one singles facing the opponent's top player in each match. Hasyn was dominant in the middle of the season for Bloomsburg posting a win in five of six matches over a two-week stretch and earned PSAC East Player of the Week honors on April 22nd for her play. A year ago Hasyn was named the PSAC East Rookie of the Year.
Cunningham was 10-7 for the Huskies playing mainly at number two and number three singles. She, too, was nearly untouchable in the middle of the season with a mark of 8-1 over a four-week stretch.
Hasyn and Weeks combined to post a record of 10-4 in doubles play, mainly at number two. During the month of April the duo went 9-2, including a stretch of seven consecutive wins.
Bloomsburg was 13-7 on the year and won the PSAC Eastern Division title and earned a trip to the NCAA regional championships.
