SHIPPENSBURG—The Bloomsburg University women's tennis advanced several players to action Sunday at the ITA East Regional Championships.
In the "A" draw, Danielle Faretta defeated Yutaka Izutsu of Concordia in the opening round, 6-4, 6-2 and Pam Kaylor of Millersville, 6-3, 6-3 in the second round. Also in the "A" draw, Erin Bartsch beat Joyce Sitruck of Queens, 6-0, 6-0 in round one and Patricia Thomas of Pace, 6-0, 6-2 in round two.
Also, Heather Miller beat Keri Gabrielson of Binghamton, 6-4, 6-4 in round one and Anna Boskova of Concordia, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 in round two.
In the "B" draw, Jen Esposito beat Kim Campbell of West Virginia Wesleyan, 8-6, in round one and Patty Piorkowski of Binghamton, 8-3 in round two. Also, Miranda Campbell won a play-in match over Tonya Leed of Clarion, 8-3 before losing in the second round to Samantha Byer of West Virginia Wesleyan, 8-4.
In doubles action, "A" draw, Faretta and Bartsch beat Maurer and Marci of Pace, 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the semifinals. Also, Miller and Katie Kochera beat Plastridge and Morrison of Franklin Pierce, 6-3, 6-4 in round one before falling in the semifinals, 6-3, 2-6, 6-0 to Vighetti and Klouse of West Virginia Wesleyan in the quarterfinals.
In "B" draw doubles, Campbell and Esposito beat Burrow and Palaferro of Shippensburg, 8-1 to advance to the quarterfinals Sunday.
Action will continue Sunday and Monday at Shippensburg University. All "A" draw winners advance to Memphis, TN next month for the ITA championships.
