HERSHEY—For the second straight year, the Bloomsburg University and Millersville University women's tennis teams have tied for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championshiup. The Huskies and Marauders tied for the top spot with 31 points each.
Millersville's Lauren Witmer was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after upsetting the top seed, Danielle Faretta from Bloomsburg, in the semifinals.
Winning PSAC championships were Heather Miller in the flight two bracket with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Pam Kaylor of Millersville; Erin Bartsch in the flight three bracket with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Hillary Cornelius of Millersville.
Also, Katie Kocher in the flight four bracket with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Abby Neff of Millersville and Jen Esposito in the flight five bracket with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 win over Abbie Sweitzer of Millersville. It had been reported Saturday that Esposito had lost her opening match, when in fact she had won. Losing in the flight six singles bracket final of Miranda Campbell who lost to Kristina Egger of Millersville, 6-0, 7-6 (9-7).
In doubles action, the flight one team of Faretta and Bartsch won 8-1 over Kaylor and Cornelius of Millersville. The Huskies flight two and three doubles teams though, lost in the finals. At number two, Miller and Kocher lost to Witmer and Neff of Millersville, 8-6, while at number three, Esposito and Campbell lost to to Scheever and Atwater of Shippensburg, 8-3.
The co-championship for the Huskies is seventh time the Huskies have either won or shared the conference crown.
