NEWPORT, VA—Bloomsburg University had five runners place in the top six places at the Captains' Classic Track Meet at Christopher Newport College in Virgnia.

In the women's 5,000 meter race, Michele Wolyniec (Plains/Coughlin) took first of 14 runners in a time of 17:47.03. The time was a new meet record and just two seconds off a provisional qualifying time for the NCAA championships. Also at 5,000 meters, Kim Gasper (Hazleton/Hazleton) took third in 19:16.27, just a half second off a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying time. Finishing fourth in the 5,000 meter race was Jen Lantz (Mount Joy/Hempfield) in a time of 20:11.28.

In the women's 3,000 meter race, Amanda Eltringham (Marlton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) was fourth in 11:17, while Julie Bloom (Lafayette, NY/Tully) was sixth in 11:28.30.
