Bloomsburg Track Teams Race at Bucknell

LEWISBURG —The Bloomsburg University men's and women's track teams took part in the Bucknell University Bison Outdoor Classic on Friday and Saturday.

In Friday's action, Mary Bacher (New Tripoli/Allentown Central Catholic) was seventh out of 27 competitors in the 3000-meter steeplechase in an NCAA championship provisional qualifying time of 11:16.83. At 5000-meters, Amber Hackenberg (Middleburg/Middleburg) also ran an NCAA provisional time of 17:32.88.

At 10,000-meters for the women, Karen Hause (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) was 13th of 23 runners with a career best time of 38:30.16.

For the men on Friday night at 5000-meters Mike Espinosa (Media/Penncrest) ran 15:14.39, while Bill Shepardson (McMuarry/Peters Township) ran a 15:27.00. Chip Carnes (Linden/Williamsport) ran a personal best of 16:06, while Jim Stockley finished in 16:39.

In the men's 10,000-meters, Justin Shepherd (Cranbery Twp/Seneca Valley) was 12th of 45 with a time of 31:25.52, while Tim Marcoe (Lansdale/Lansdale Catholic) and Ben Holmes (Waynesboro/Waynesboro) both ran PSAC-qualifying times for the event. Marcoe ran 33:012.16, while Holmes ran a 33:16.32.

On Saturday in the women's 800-meters, Cheris Mercer (Philadelphia/Bishop McDevitt) was 8th of 51 runners in a time of 2:17.25. Katie Conlon (Inkerman/Pittston Area) ran a personal best of 2:25.67 in the event, while Laura Duceman (Mt. Carmel/Mt. Carmel) ran a 2:28.58 in just her second outdoor race at that distance.

In the women's 1500-meters, won her heat and was 11th of 33 runners with a time of 4:56.84. In the long jump, Connie Raineri (Gilbertville/St. Pius X) was 14th of 32 competitors with a jump of 16 feet, 4 ½ inches.

For the men at 800-meters, Dave Sanford (Nescopeck/Central Columbia) ran a personal-best time of 1:59.63, while at 1500-meters Sanford was sixth of 55 with a personal best of 4:01.44.

In the 100-meters, Greg McGhee (Philadelphia/Cheltenham) was tied for fifth with a time of 11.17 seconds and qualified for the PSAC championships at 200-meters with a time of 22.52 seconds.

In relay events, the team of Raineri, Conlon, Duceman and Mercer ran a 4:08.53 in the 4 x 400, while for the men at the same event Jamie Ruth (Newtown, PA), Sanford, McGhee and Matt Corridoni (Pittston/Pittston Area) ran 3:25.00.
