STATE COLLEGE—The Bloomsburg University men's and women's cross country teams participated in the 22nd Annual Spiked Shoe Invitational at Penn State University Saturday. The women's competition featured teams from 25 schools. The men's competition offered runners from 23 schools.

The Bloomsburg women finished 18th overall with 447 points. Jen McNeal (Monroeton/Towanda) was the top finisher for the Huskies, finishing the 6,000 meter race 65th in 23:14.04. Kim Gasper (Hazleton/Bishop Hafey) finished 91st in 23:41.05, and Julie Bloom (Lafayette, NY/Tully) was third-fastest for Bloomsburg, finishing 112th in 23:58.69.

Katie Jazwinski was the winner of the women's race (20:52.69) and led the University of Michigan to the top team showing.

The Bloomsburg men finished 21st with 609 points. Matt Zappile (Augusta, NJ/Pope John XXIII) was Bloomsburg's top finisher in 28:02.73 and 128th overall. Curtis Woodard (Monroeton/Towanda) finished 143rd in 28:15.28. Eric Wolfgang (York/York Central) was 222nd in 29:30.07.

William & Mary placed its seven scorers in the top-21 to win the men's title. Karl Savage of St. Joseph's broke the tape in the 5.2 mile men's race with a time of 25:30.40.

Both teams return to action on September 30 when they will take part in the Lock Haven Invitational.
