BLOOMSBURG— Bloomsburg University cross country standout Danielle Kramer (Coal Township/Shamokin) finished second in the 2002 NCAA Division II East Regional Championships Saturday morning qualifying her for the NCAA Championships in two weeks. Kramer is the first runner for Bloomsburg to move on to nationals since 1994. With the second-place finish, Kramer helped lead the women's team to fourth place out of 18 teams.
A week ago, Kramer finished ninth at the PSAC Championships, a disappointing finish for one of the PSAC's top runners. Head Coach Karen Brandt was very pleased with her performance this week. “I'm thrilled for Danielle,” said Brandt. “She ran the kind of race she knew she had in her, especially after last week's finish,”.
Other top finishers for the women included Amanda Pisano (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown) who finished 17th, Jennie Roberts (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) who came in at 22nd place and Mary Bacher (Allentown/Central Catholic), finishing in 26th place. The Huskies' fourth place finish bested last year's 12th place finish by eight spots.
On the men's side, junior Chris Turner (Lawrenceville/Williamson) was the top finisher for the Huskies, coming at 36th place. He led the men to a ninth place finish out of 21 teams, up four spots from last year's 13th place finish. Other top runners included Curtis Woodard (Sayres/Towanda) in 37th place, Justin Dosch (Sunbury/ Shikellamy) who came in 46th and Mike Espinosa (Media/Penncrest) finishing at the 49th spot.
The NCAA Cross Country Championships are Nov. 23rd at Ashland University in Ohio.
