Bloomsburg University Runs Well at DeSales Invitational

BLOOMSBURG-The Bloomsburg University men's and women's cross country teams faired well Saturday at the DeSales Invitational. The men's team took third out of 34 teams and the women finished in fourth overall place out of 31 teams. The men's JV team took first overall place out of 12 teams while the women finished fourth overall, competing against eight other teams.

For the Huskies, freshman Justin Shepard (Cranberry/Seneca Valley) finished 13th overall in a time of 27:14 while Justin Dosch (Sunbury/Shikellamy) came in 20th in a time of 27:37. Chip Carnes (Linden/Williamsport) also finished in the top 25, taking 23rd in a time of 27:42. Senior Eric Wolfgang (York/Central York) ran strong for the Huskies, taking the course in 27:57, good enough for 35th place in a race that included 228 runners. Brandon Palmer (Carlisle/Big Springs) was the Huskies fifth finisher, placing 42nd overall in a time of 28:06

Bloomsburg's JV team ran impressively and had four finishers in the top 10. Michael Espinosa (Media/Penncrest) won the race, finishing in 27:55. Dan Ezzi (Mechanicsburg/Trinity) took fourth place in a time of 28:38. Paul Berry (Sunbury/Shikellamy) wasn't far behind, taking sixth overall in a time of 29:09. Freshmen Bill Shepardson (McMurray/Peters Twp.) finished :09 seconds behind Berry, good enough for ninth place. Dion Crommarty (King of Prussia/Upper Merion) was the Huskies fifth place finisher, taking the course in 28:06, finishing 28th.

The Bloomsburg women also ran extremely well, taking fourth overall in a race that included 221 runners. The Huskies top finisher was Mary Bacher (New Tripoli/Allentown Central Catholic), who finished 17th overall in a time of 20:09. Katie Conlon (Inkerman/Pittston Area) ran strong for the Huskies in a time of 20:27, good enough for 30th place. Freshman Terri Sutherland (Dauphin/Central Dauphin East) took 33rd overall in a time of 20:38. Teammate Sara Bounds (Shippensburg/Shippensburg) finished right after Sutherland in a time of 20:43. Freshman Anne Stefursky (Archbald/Valley View) was the Huskies final finisher, taking the DeSales University course in 20:59, placing 42nd overall.

The Huskies JV team also had a very good showing at DeSales, placing four runners in the top 25. Lisa Stefursky (Archbald/Valley View) was Bloomsburg's highest finisher, taking 10th overall in a time of 21:47. Marcie Rumfield (Northampton/Northampton) ran well, finishing 13th in a time of 21:56. Freshman Megan Chaudre (Carlisle/Carlisle) ran the course in a time of 22:08, good enough for 19th place. Autumn Simmons (Northumberland/Shikellamy) was :05 seconds behind Chaudre and took 22nd overall. Jess Billingsby (Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raritan) was the Huskies fifth place finisher, taking the course in 22:46, finishing 40th.

The Huskies race next Saturday at the Mansfield, with Lock Haven. The time for that meet is to be announced.
