Huskies Finish Season at East Regionals

LOCK HAVENThe Bloomsburg University men's and women's cross country teams finished their season at the 2003 East Regional at Lock Haven University. The men finished sixth, while the women were seventh out of 24 teams.
Justin Shepherd (Cranberry/Seneca Valley), who earned All-PSAC honors last weekend, paced the men, finishing 16th with a time of 32:39 in the 10K event. Chip Carnes (Williamsport/Linden) ran second for the Huskies, placing 44th with a time of 33:47, while Justin Dosch (Sunbury/Shikellamy) was 46th, with a time of 33:48. Rounding out the scoring for the Huskies were Eric Wolfgang (York/Central York) in 54th and Paul Gardiner (Airville/ Kennardale) in 57th, with times of 34:03 and 34:05, respectively.
The women were led by Amanda Pisano (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown), who finished 16th out of 162 runners with a time of 22:49 in the 6K race. Mary Bacher (New Tripoli/Allentown Central Catholic) finished 20th with a time of 22:58, while Katie Conlon (Inkerman/Pittston Area) and Terri Sutherland (Dauphin/ Central Dauphin East) were 47th and 48th, respectively, with times of 23:44 and 23:45. Sarah Bounds (Shippensburg/Shippensburg) rounded out the scoring for the Huskies in 61st place with a time of 24:03.
Wolfgang, a senior, and Pisano, a sophomore, both received 2003 NCAA East Regional All-Academic honors with grade-point averages of 3.25 or higher.
Lock Haven took the men's title, and Edinboro was second, earning spots at the 2003 NCAA Division II National Championships at Saint Augustine's College on Nov. 22. Aaron Rowe of Edinboro was the individual champion, beating second-place finisher Ricky Moore of Wheeling Jesuit by six seconds.
In the women's race, Edinboro won their fifth regional championship in the last six years as they beat Indiana (Pa.) by 29 points. PSAC individual champion, Mindy Sawtelle, won her first regional championship to lead Indiana (Pa.). Edinboro and Indiana (Pa.) will represent the east region at the national championship race.
