Cross Country Competes at Bucknell

BLOOMSBURG— The Bloomsburg University women's and men's cross country teams participated in the Gulden Invitational Friday at Bucknell University. The women's teams placed fifth out of 11 teams while the men finished seventh out of 10 teams.

The women were led by freshman Amber Hackenburg (Middleburg/Middleburg) who completed the 6,000 kilometer course in 22:40, good enough for third place. Other Bloomsburg finishers included Karen Hause (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) who finished 21st overall with a time of 23:51, Mary Bacher (New Tripoli/Allentown Central Catholic) who finished 35th overall with a time of 24:17, and Amanda Pisano (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown) who finished 54th overall with a time of 24:52. Sarah Bounds (Shippensburg/Shippensburg) rounded out the Huskies top five by finishing 60th overall in a time of 25:08.

The men were led by Justin Shepard (Cranberry Twp. /Seneca Valley), who completed the course in 26:11, good enough for 20th overall. Michael Espinosa (Media/Penncrest) finished 26th overall with a time of 26:21, while Paul Gardiner (Airville/Kennardale) took 55th overall with a time of 26:59. Freshman David Sanford (Nescopeck/Central Columbia) finished 61st overall with a time of 27:16, while Chip Carnes (Williamsport/Williamsport) was not far behind, finishing 67th in a time of 27:25.

Bloomsburg will return to action on October 9th when they host the Husky Invitational at Bloomsburg University.
