Bloomsburg Women Win Open Division at Penn State Cross Country Invitational
STATE COLLEGE The Bloomsburg University women's cross country team won the open division at the Penn State Spiked Shoe Invitational on Saturday. The Bloomsburg men's team was second in the open division.
On the women's side, the Huskies finished eighth overall out of 17 teams competing, but were the top non-Division One team with a total of 187 points. Two of the teams Bloomsburg beat were PSAC rivals Clarion (236 points) and Shippensburg (351 points).
Leading the way for Bloomsburg was Amanda Pisano (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown) in 20th place overall in 22:57 on the 6 kilometer course. Pisano was also the first Division II runner across the line. Amber Hackenberg (Middleburg/Middleburg) was 22nd overall in 23:03, while Karen Hause (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) was 43rd in 23:37. Terri Sutherland (Dauphin/C.D. East) was fourth for the Huskies and 59th overall in 24:13, while Mary Bacher (New Tripoli/Allentown Central Catholic) was 67th overall in 25:25. A total of 191 runners finished the race.
On the men's side, the Huskies were 13th of 18 teams overall and second in the open division behind Shippensburg.
Leading the way for the men were Justin Shepherd (Cranberry Twp/Seneca Valley) in 50th place overall with a time of 27:09 over the 5.2 mile course. Michael Espinosa (Media/Penncrest) was next for Bloomsburg in 76th place overall with a time of 27:47 with David Sanford (Nescopeck/Bloomsburg) 82nd in 27:54. Paul Gardiner (Airville/Kennardale) was 9oth in 28:02, while Bill Shephardson (McMurray/Peters Twp.) 125th in 28:46. A total of 231 runners finished the race.
Bloomsburg will take part in the IUP Invitational on Sept. 18th at 10 a.m.
