Bloomsburg Cross Country Teams Take Part in Penn State Open

BLOOMSBURG— The Bloomsburg University women's and men's cross country teams participated in the Penn State Open on Saturday at Penn State University. The women's teams placed 23rd out of 41 teams while the men finished 26th out of 38 teams.

The women were led by freshman Amber Hackenburg (Middleburg/Middleburg) who completed the 6,000 kilometer course in 22:19, good enough for a 58th place finish out of 346 runners. Other Bloomsburg finishers included Amanda Pisano (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown) who finished in 93rd place in a time of 22:42, Karen Krause (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) who finished 162nd in a time of 23:23, Mary Bacher (New Tripoli/Allentown Central Catholic) who finished 179th in a time of 23:34, and Terri Sutherland (Dauphin/Central Dauphin East) who finished 222nd in a time of 23:57.

The men were led by Justin Shepard (Cranberry Twp. /Seneca Valley), who completed the 5.2 mile course in 26:32, good enough for 44th place out of 322 runners. Michael Espinosa (Media/Pencrest) finished 134th with a time of 27:26, while Paul Gardiner (Airville/Kennardale) finished 206th in 28:12. Sophomore Chip Carnes (Williamsport/Williamsport) finished 209th in 28:15, while freshman David Sanford (Nescopeck/Central Columbia) finished 216th in a time of 28:24.

Bloomsburg will return to action on October 23rd when they take part in the East Stroudsburg Invitational.
