Bloomsburg Cross Country Teams Race at Penn State

STATE COLLEGE—Bloomsburg University's Amber Hackenberg (Middleburg/Middleburg) finished fourth to lead the women's cross country team to a fourth place finish at the Penn State Spiked Shoe Invitational on Saturday.

For the men, Justin Shepherd (Cranberry Twp/Seneca Valley) finished seventh overall to lead the Huskies to a seventh place team finish.

Hackenberg, who was 22nd in the same event last year, covered the course in 22:10 and was the second D-II finisher in the field. In addition, freshman Ashley Shuck (Milton/Milton) was 22nd in 22:51, while Mary Bacher (New Tripoli/Allentown Central Catholic) was 29th in 23:05. Also, freshman Shannon Hoffman (Watsontown/Warrior Run) was 36th in 23:16 with Katie Conlon (Inkerman/Pittston Area) taking 43rd place in 23:29.

For the men, Shepherd, who was 50th last year at this event, was seventh this year in a time of 25:57, while Dave Sanford (Nescopeck/Central Columbia) was 37th in 27:29. Close behind in 40th was Dan Ezzi (Mechanicsburg/Trinity) with a time of 27:33, while Jake Stamey (Danville/Danville) was 45th in 27:42 with Bill Shephardson (McMurray/Peters Twp) 52nd in 27:49.

The Huskies are idle till Oct. 8th when they visit Slippery Rock for the Slippery Rock Invitational.
