BLOOMSBURG--Bloomsburg University cross country and track standout Amber Hackenberg (Middleburg/Middleburg) has been selected to the 2006 CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) ESPN The Magazine District 2 Cross Country/Track All-Academic Team. Hackenberg was a first team selection and will now move on to the national ballot with a chance to earn Academic All-American honors.

Hackenberg, who has a 4.0 GPA and is a Business Administration major, capped a fabulous year by being named Bloomsburg's Female Underclassman of the Year for 2005-06 and MVP of the cross country team. This past fall, she lead the women's cross country team to a second place finish in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships, the best finish in school history. Individually, she earned both All-PSAC honors and All-Region honors on the season; finishing fourth in the conference meet and fifth at the NCAA East Regional meet. At cross country nationals, Hackenberg recorded the best individual performance by a female in school history when she placed 48th in a field of 180.

In addition to her cross country achievements, Hackenberg earned a PSAC podium finish at the indoor track championships taking fifth place in the 5000-meter race. She also qualified for the conference championships in the mile run and the 3000-meter event.

Head coach Karen Brandt is very happy for her sophomore standout.

“We are fortunate and happy to have a student-athlete of Amber's academic and athletic ability and well as caring and committed nature on our team,” said Brant. “We are very proud of her and happy for her to have earned this honor.”
