Women's Cross Country Places First in Regional Rankings
BLOOMSBURG, PA -The Bloomsburg University women's cross country team is ranked first in the Atlantic Region in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Association weekly poll. The Bloomsburg men's team is ranked sixth in the Atlantic Region poll.
The Bloomsburg women's squad is coming off the first PSAC cross country championship in school history as the Huskies snapped Edinboro's nine-year hold on top spot at the conference meet. The Huskies also captured first place at the NCAA East Regional for the first time in school history last year placing three runners in the top 10. Bloomsburg lost top runner Amber Hackenberg, but that was the only loss on the squad.
The Huskies return their top four runners from last year's team, including junior Andrea Kellock (Lansdale/North Penn) who placed 9th at PSAC meet, Angela Borealo (Easton/Easton), who placed 12th, Beth Schwing (Hershey/Lower Dauphin), who took13th place and Ashley Shuck (Milton/Milton), who finished 26th place. Kellock and Schwing also finished in the top 10 at the NCAA East Regional, which qualified the Huskies for the NCAA Championships, where they finished 15th in the first-ever appearance at the national meet.
The Bloomsburg men's squad returns a group of solid runners including, senior Mike Dalton (Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Pope John XXIII), who placed 33rd in 2007 PSAC Championships, senior Misha Litvinov (Drums/Hazleton) who placed 35th, and also senior Jimmy Stockley (Elverson/Twin Valley).
Bloomsburg open its season on the road at Bucknell University on Friday, August 29th at 5:00 p.m.
