Bloomsburg University Appoints Two Assistant Coaches

BLOOMSBURG-Bloomsburg University Athletic Director Mary Gardner announces the hiring of Louise Duffus and Liam Smith as full-time assistants for the men's and women's cross country and track & field programs.

Duffus comes to Bloomsburg from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), where she was the assistant coach for the men's and women's track & field teams. While with the Engineers, Duffus assisted with the coaching of RPI's throwers as well as both cross country teams. Her responsibilities included administrative duties, recruiting and meet management.

Liam Smith

Duffus graduated from Bowdoin College in 2007 after turning in four years as a member of the Polar Bears track & field program. During her time there, she set school records in the indoor and outdoor shot put, weight and hammer throw and was a multi-time All-ECAC and All-NESCAC honoree. She reached the NCAA Division III National Championships five times, earning All-America status three times in the 20lb weight throw.

Smith comes to the Huskies program after four years as an assistant cross country/track & field coach at Lehigh University. During his time with the Mountain Hawks, Smith was responsible for recruiting, meet management, and developing workout schedules for the sprint middle distance runners.

A 2005 graduate of St. Francis (PA), Smith is the school record holder in numerous events, including the indoor 600m, 4x400, 4x800, distance medley relay, and the outdoor 4x200, 4x400 and 4x800 relays. He was twice an All-East performer as well as a six-time All-NEC athlete.
