Bloomsburg University Cross Country Men, Women Picked Seventh in PSAC Poll

BLOOMSBURG-The Bloomsburg University men's and women's cross country squads have each been picked to finish seventh in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), as selected by the conference coaches.

Edinboro was selected as the top team on the men's side, with 12 first place votes. Lock Haven was second and had four first place votes, while Shippensburg, Slippery Rock and Indiana (PA) rounded out the top five. On the women's side, Shippensburg, on the strength of all 16 first place votes, was chosen to finish first in the conference. Slippery Rock, Edinboro, Kutztown and Millersville finished out the top five schools.

Bernie Empie starts the season as the interim head coach for both the men's and women's cross country teams at Bloomsburg. Last season the Huskies placed fifth at the PSAC Championships, while the men finished fifth and women finished sixth at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships. Three Bloomsburg runners earned All-Region honors in 2008 under former coaches Karen and Jim Brandt.

One of those runners return in senior Andrea Kellock (Landsdale/North Penn). She was the Huskies top finisher at the regional championships, coming in seventh out of 172 runners with a time of 22:25. Kellock finished eighth at the PSAC championship meet, winning all-conference honors with a time of 22:57. The top returning finisher from the regional championships on the men's side is sophomore Dave Moyer (Boyertown/Boyertown Area). He finished 27th out of 165 racers with a time of 33:35. He ran his best time of the year at the Bison Open, finishing 20th with a time of 21:03.

The Huskies open their season on their home course in the Husky Invitational on Saturday, September 5. Their next meet takes them to Mansfield University to run in the Mountaineer Flatland Invitational on Saturday, September 19.
