STATE COLLEGE—The Bloomsburg University men's and women's cross country teams took part in the Penn State Spiked Shoe Invitational Saturday.
The Bloomsburg men finished 22nd of 22 teams with 684 points, while the women finished 13 of 18 teams with 326 points. James Madison won the men's title with 46 points, while Michigan took top honors in the women's race with 30 points.
For the men, freshmen Matt Zappile was the top finisher at 187th place with a time of 29:45, while John Hanlon finished 233rd in 31:48. Terry Grant was 242nd in 32:23, Dan Eckel 243rd in 32:32 and Pete Wadel 244th in 32:37. Brian Thomassey was 253rd in 34:52.
For the women, Michele Wolyniec was 28th in 18:53, while Amanda Eltringham was 71st in 19:47. Julie Bloom was third for the Huskies in 111th place in 20:35, while Gwen Stevens was 119th in 20:46. Jen Lantz was fifth for Bloomsburg in 130th place in 20:56, while Carrie-Ann Hiltabidel was 177th in 23:00, with Rachel Keller 182nd in 23:17.
The Huskies are back in action Oct. 2nd at the St. Francis of Loretto Red Flash Invitational.
