Summer Freshman Program
Students admitted into the Summer Freshmen Program must take BU classes the summer before their first Fall semester. An admission offer to our Summer Freshman Program gives entering freshman a unique opportunity to experience Bloomsburg University before returning in the fall semester.
Almost 600 students will be selected to take college courses, live together in dorms, participate in on-campus activities and get to know our beautiful campus.
What is the Summer Program?
The Summer Freshman Program is designed to help students transition from high school to college life. Participation in the program is a great way to get to know the campus, meet new friends, experience residence hall life and get ahead before returning in the fall. If you are interested in changing your acceptance from the fall to the summer, please contact the Office of Admissions today!
(We are unable to change summer offers directly to the fall.)
What will I study?
The Summer Freshman Program consists of six weeks of study. During this six-week period, students take two college courses (three credits each) and a one credit study skills course.
These courses are scheduled for the student by the university. Students will receive their schedules during orientation/move-in day.
As long as the student completes the program while maintaining at least a 2.25 GPA, they may continue on as a full-time student in the fall without reapplying.
Selecting a major
Every student who begins in one of our Summer Freshman Programs will enroll in general studies (undeclared). Students have up to two years to select a major area of study.
Those planning to enter one of our more competitive majors (i.e. education, health sciences) may request to do so after completing the summer program and earning the necessary quality point average. Admission to any major is based on space available in a particular program.
What is the cost of the Summer Freshman Program?
|Tuition & Fees||$2,453||$4,787|
|Room & Board (meals)||$1,140||$1,140|
Please contact the Financial Aid Office to see if you qualify for aid.
Credit hour charge for in-state students is $260, for out-of-state students, $650.
Why was I admitted into the Summer Freshman Program?
BU receives about six applications for every opening in its freshmen class. Last year, almost 12,000 students applied for only 1,500 fall spots!
Typically, candidates who are offered summer admission are students we believe would be successful at BU if given the opportunity but may have applied late or were below our fall averages:
- Top 20 percent of class
- 90.3 GPA
- 1070 on SATs (math and critical reading only)
- 23 on ACTs
