Rec's popular fitness classes roar again

The Spring 2008 semester leaps into action at the Student Recreation Center with a challenging and fun array of fitness classes, announced Jan. 14. rec8 (28K)

Abilates With Ashley: Come tone those abdominal muscles in time for spring break and summer vacation in a class that combines ab exercises with Pilates. All levels are welcome. Please note that this is not a Pilates class.

Beach Body Workout with Ashley: A low impact class that incorporates body weight and a variety of exercise equipment to build that beach body just in time for bathing suit season.

Beginner Yoga with Sharma: Promoting stress-free living and working. Yoga sets out to help us find ways to quiet the mind, using postures to relax and refresh the body, mind, and soul. Traditionally, yoga focuses on the inner world of the individual, a place that can become a refreshing retreat in the midst of a busy day. Exercise for your soul!

Bootcamp with Amanda: Burn fat through an hour of aerobic work while building lean muscle mass through calisthenics ... Using your own body weight as resistance, this military-style program is a circuit of drills ranging from running and jumping jacks to push-ups, squats and sit-ups for people with busy schedules who need to fit in a hard workout.

Butts 'n' Guts with Jess: Gut-wrenching, muscle-toning for forty-five minutes. This workout concentrates on the hardest muscles to tighten: your hips, buns, thighs, and abs. Targets your body's core stabilizing muscles: upper abs, lower abs, and the obliques. Come feel the burn!

Calorie Killer With Karli: This sport-related class includes a variety of cardio drills that are aimed to improve agility and strength.

Fit and Funky With Linda: If you like to dance, then you'll love this high energy lower impact aerobic class which is packed with choreography that will get you up and moving. Upper and lower body exercises will be incorporated into the class using weights, bands, and body bars for a total body workout! Stay for the last half hour for the ultimate abdominal portion!

Kickboxing with Steve: This class is geared toward the instruction of the fundamentals of kickboxing. It offers a blend of rigorous cardiovascular exercise, applicable self defense, and an introduction to a highly rewarding sport. Participants can expect to improve endurance and technique, as well as boost confidence. Students learn actual techniques and strategies that would be applicable to a full contact situation.

Step It up with Jess: Elevate your workout with the use of adjustable step platforms. Moves and music blend in this three dimensional fitness class. All levels are welcome.

T.G.I.F. with Linda: Thank God It's Friday! All week you did what someone else told you to do, well, today is the day that you get to pick and chose your workout. A great transition into weekend!

Tone It Up With Linda: This is a great class for those who are not into aerobics but want to create a lean, defined body. This class will strengthen and tone both your upper and lower body with challenging exercises. Fit balls, weights, bands, steps, and body bars will be used to help you get great results! Abs will be worked to the maximum using a variety of moves to get them flat and firm!

Ultimate abs with Linda: Right after the aerobic segment stay for another half hour or just come to join us for this intense core-training workout.

Washboard Abs: Come strengthen your core muscles for thirty minutes jam-packed with a variety of abdominal and low back exercises.
