President David Soltz presents the STRIVE Award to Linda Hill

Joseph Mowad, Council of Trustees member and chair of the presidential search committee, and Jim Hollister, assistant vice president for university relations, wrote the following nomination letter on behalf of the 11 members of the Presidential Search Committee:

It gives us great pleasure to nominate Linda Hill for the STRIVE award based on her outstanding performance in administrative support help for the university's Presidential Search Committee during the recent selection process which resulted in the hiring of David Soltz as our 18th President.

In addition to her regular stellar work in the division of University Relations, Linda spent more than 10 months handling every possible administrative detail related to the search. Her work was lauded by all of the candidates, including the 5 finalists with whom she came in contact, employees of the international recruiting firm retained by the university to assist in the search, the many constituent groups on campus who were involved in the selection process, and us as members of the Presidential Search Committee.

Her outstanding attention to detail left no stone unturned from travel, housing, dining arrangements, through the multi-day visits of 5 finalists and their spouses. The time and effort to schedule dozens of locations and hundreds of people was an incredible effort by one individual but showed the outstanding dedication and attention to detail by this employee. While a lengthy process, our efforts to expedite visits at the end were only possible through Linda's efforts and willingness to put in time during evenings and weekends throughout the process.

She was also an integral part of each stage of our interview process as an "ex officio" member of the committee. Her work in allowing us to come to a successful conclusion with the hiring of Dr. Soltz will have an impact on this university for many years to come. Her personable approach to spouses allowed them to counsel the candidates on other aspects of the university and community with which the candidates were unable to be associated during the full schedules of their visits. It is without qualification that we nominate this outstanding employee for this very appropriate recognition.

Recipients of the STRIVE Award, which is supported by the BU Foundation, receive tickets for the Celebrity Artist Series as well as other donated gifts.

Employees can find nomination forms for STRIVE can be found on the university's network on the "S" drive in the "BU Documents" folder. Questions and nominations can be sent to Kim Schmitz.
