Delegates to the Forum provided feedback on guidelines, a proposal and a policy Wednesday, April 23 during the last meeting of the academic year.
Jonathan Lincoln, assistant vice president for academic affairs, reviewed proposed revisions to the Research and Disciplinary Grant guidelines. Lincoln said changes would modify evaluation criteria and establish fall deadlines that would better meet the needs of new faculty members.
On behalf of the Departmental Assessment of Student Learning subcommittee of the Assessment and Evaluation Task Force, Forum chair Michael Coffta outlined five proposals designed to make assessment more meaningful. The subcommittee proposes: amending the omnibus form, keeping assessment of student learning (ASL) plans and reports distinct from strategic plans, creating an ASL advisory committee at BU, creating a fully operational and active ASL committee within each college and creating a staff position for a director of assessment of student learning at the university level.
During his last Forum meeting before retirement, James Matta, assistant vice president and dean for graduate studies and research, discussed the proposed Misconduct in Research Policy, PRP 6820. He said the 30-page document would update the Academic Integrity Policy, PRP 3512, put in place to satisfy requirements of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Also during the meeting, Wayne Mohr, assistant vice president for technology, reported that Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education legal counsel will no longer permit faculty emeriti to retain bloomu.edu e-mail addresses. According to PASSHE, the e-mail accounts may remain open up to three months following retirement.
