More than 260 high school students with disabilities will learn about college, community living and jobs after high school at BU today, April 14. The seventh annual Transition Conference will be held in partnership with the Columbia-Montour Transition Council.
Students from seven school districts will attend the all-day event, featuring presentations and panel discussions led by current BU students, local community leaders and BU faculty. Discussions will focus on continuing education, independent living, health and safety, coping strategies and communication. Current BU students with disabilities and students in the department of exceptionality programs will assist with the conference.
The Columbia-Montour Transition Council functions as a resource for current high school students with disabilities, according to James Krause, associate professor and chair of exceptionality programs at BU. Through partnerships with community organizations and businesses, including Bloomsburg University, the council helps students prepare for adult life through job placements, continued education and independent living.
