At the Bloomsburg University Curriculum Committee (BUCC) meeting on Sept. 24, Dianne Mark, dean of the College of Professional Studies, discussed upcoming changes to the curriculum in the BU's early childhood, elementary and secondary education programs.
New state department of education regulations will require that students in these programs have at least nine credits of instruction in exceptionalities and three credits for teaching students who are learning English. This will require substantial changes to BU's education programs Mark said. Curriculum revisions will be brought to BUCC on Oct. 15.
Provost James Mackin introduced Lawrence Fritz, the new dean of graduate studies and research, Dennis Gehris, who is interim dean of the College of Business, and Rosalee Rush, BU's new director of communications.
Mackin announced that the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education has given approval for BU to offer Minor in Africana Studies. Though BU only asked for concept approval for the program, the system gave final approval because the information, prepared by the department of history, was so complete. The program will go before BUCC and the Council of Trustees for approval.
