BU's International Studies Living and Learning Community is sponsoring a lecture series by BU faculty during the fall.
The series begins Monday, Sept. 22, when Luke Springman, chair of the department of languages and cultures, gives a talk titled "Learn Another Language Now." Springman will discuss how learning another language enhances a person's general cognitive abilities, increases career opportunities and aids in self-discovery. "Languages and cultures, as an area of study, is also actively engaged in cultural awareness and the fight against racism and bigotry," said Springman.
Springman's talk and subsequent talks begin at 7 p.m. in the Living and Learning Community Center, Columbia Hall, room 119, and are free and open to the public.
Future talks include:
"The goal of the lectures is to demonstrate the significance of a global perspective in all aspects of life," said Ferda Asya, faculty director of the International Studies Living and Learning Community. "It is necessary to understand the common and different aspects of the history, culture and tradition of countries all over the world and to be prepared to work together to resolve issues."
The International Studies Living and Learning Community is open to BU students and faculty whose interests, ambitions and career goals have an international component.
