PASSHE Chancellor John Cavanaugh spoke about the economy and its effect on student loans and other issues affecting the campus community during an open forum Wednesday, Nov. 19.
"At this point, we don't have a good, clear crystal ball as to what is going to happen this fiscal year or next fiscal year," Cavanaugh said during his campus visit. "We're still monitoring the situation."
In other matters, Cavanaugh said searches are moving forward for PASSHE's vice chancellor for external relations, responsible for government affairs, and the vice chancellor for human resources and labor relations.
He also talked about task forces that are being established to look at class size and how to expand doctoral programs. A task force studying accountability data (will) "start from the proposition that every university has a strategic plan. (Accountability data) must reflect the unique niche of each campus," he said.
In response to questions from the audience, the chancellor said he's been "extremely impressed with student leaders who I've come in contact with. You do a phenomenal job of developing student leaders."
He also said alumni can play a strong role in fundraising and recruitment. "We're not allowed to lobby, but alumni can lobby or connect with members of the legislature. They can put in a good word."
