Middle States Discussed at Forum

The university forum heard an update on the Draft Middle States Report on Oct. 29. Richard Baker, chair of the Middle States Steering Committee, reported that Middle States representative Alan Donovan visited campus in early October to meet with key executives and the steering committee.

Donovan has already read BU's draft report Baker said, and "the bottom link was that he is really pleased with Bloomsburg."

Baker asked that departments send him any examples of when assessment has been done and the results used to steer programs, including cases when assessment confirmed current practice.

President David Soltz gave a brief budget update. The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education has asked BU to set aside $1.6 million from it's budget, which may have to be returned to the state depending on economic conditions.

"It will largely come from new funds through increased enrollment," Soltz said. "The good news is this is not a base reduction."

It was announced that Julie Kontos was elected chair of the Bloomsburg University curriculum committee (BUCC) at that committee's last meeting. A Dec. 3 BUCC meeting has been scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. to focus on curriculum changes necessitated by Department of Education regulation changes.
