Student Employment Appreciation Week is April 13 through April 17.
On Monday, April 13th, the nominees for Student Employee of the Year, and their sponsors will enjoy a luncheon at noon at the Children's Museum.
Bloomsburg University's 2008-09 Student Employee of the Year is Sheila Martin, a senior Elementary Education major. Sheila worked as an office manager/museum assistant in the Children's Museum, through the off campus work study program, and receives a $500 scholarship funded by the Bloomsburg University Foundation.
The second place finisher is Matthew Pettengill, a senior Psychology major. Matthew also works through the off campus work study program, as the Compeer Group Homes Coordinator and Administrative Assistant for the Mental Health Association/Compeer Program. As runner up he received a $200 gift certificate from the University Book Store.
On Tuesday, April 14, at 9 a.m., in the Schweiker Room, in Andruss Library, there will be an interactive workshop titled "How to Communicate Effectively with Your Student Employee", facilitated by Dr. William Harrar, Director of Counseling and Human Development. This workshop will help you fine tune/improve your communication skills to better handle those difficult student employee issues. Register by contacting Karen Hicks at khicks@bloomu.edu.
On Wednesday, April 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., all student workers and supervisors are invited for a free grilled hot dog on the patio in front of the Warren Student Services Center.
On Thursday, April 16, teams of student employees (and supervisors) can participate in the Third Annual Team Challenge from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Rec Center. Athletic ability is not required, a spirit of competition is all you need for fun and creative team-building activities. One lucky team will win a free luncheon worth up to $100.
