Darlene C. Gabsewics – accounting
Gabsewics is a certified public accountant and co-owner of D&D Business Services, LLC, Berwick. She is a 2002 Cum Laude graduate of BU's College in Business with a bachelor's in accounting. Gabsewics is a graduate (2007) of Strayer University with a master's in accounting. Her working experience includes the retail banking industry and public accounting. She learned to drive a motorcycle at age 42 and loves it. She lives in Briar Creek Township with husband George and a fat orange tabby cat.
James "Jim" Szewc – business
Szewc, who graduated from Western Michigan University (1976) with a bachelor's of business administration degree, was employed at Thomson McKinnon Securities and owned Huron Investment Services from 1981-90. He has owned various businesses including restaurants, a video store and a trucking business. Szewc is presently employed at First Keystone National Bank, Berwick, as vice president and senior trust officer. His designations include certified financial planner, and certified trust and financial advisor through the Institute of Certified Bankers.
Erick Hinson – chemistry, physics, physiology
Hinson, who graduated in biomedical studies from Vanderbilt University, has experience in laboratory research and field engineering. He has taught English and western culture to children in Istanbul, Turkey. Hinson is currently completing his master's in medical informatics at Northwestern University. His career focuses have been in medical computer systems and mechanical/systems engineering. He has tutored with SSS for more than four years and says it keeps getting better.
Robert "Bob" Reed – mathematics
Reed is a BU alumnus with a master’s degree from East Stroudsburg University. He retired in 2003 from Shamokin Area High School after 35 years of teaching. While at Shamokin, he was academic advisor for the BU Upward Bound program's students. He has worked as an adjunct professor at Alvernia, Luzerne, Park College, Mount Aloysius and BU.
Darren Dusick- mathematics
Darren is currently a mathematics teacher at Shamokin Area Middle/High School in Coal Township, PA. He has been teaching for five years and has taught middle school mathematics, algebra 3, trigonometry, calculus, AP calculus and Keystone algebra. Darren holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Lebanon Valley College, and he is presently pursuing a master's degree in Instructional Technology from Bloomsburg University.
Kate Warhurst- mathematics
Kate teaches introductory and intermediate algebra courses at Bloomsburg University since the summer of 2008 and she is a full time teacher at Berwick Area Senior High School where she teaches geometry, algebra 2, and calculus. Kate earned her bachelor's degree in mathematics with a concentration in statistics from Elizabethtown College and she earned her master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction at Bloomsburg University.
Scott Duncan- sociology and criminal justice
Scott worked in law enforcement for nearly a decade with the Metro Nashville Police Department, and he spent another nine years as a consultant and senior project analyst with the SEDA-Council of Governments in Lewisburg, PA. Scott is currently teaching courses in the Sociology, Social Work and Criminal Justice department at Bloomsburg University. He earned his MBA from Belmont University and a master's degree in Criminal Justice form the University of Cincinnati.
Matt Woll- biology
Matt holds an associates degree in Applied Science in Plastics and Plymer Engineering Technology form Pennsylvania College of Technology, a B.S. degree in Biology with a minor in plant pathology from The Pennsylvania State Univeristy, an M.B.A. degree from the Pennsylvania State University and a PhD in Pharmacology from the Pennsylvania State University. He has been tutoring for TRIO SSS since the fall of 2011.
Jessica Pilewski- writing/reading
Jessica is an Instructional Associate Writing and Reading teacher at the Goldman Sachs Learning Center in Shamokin. She holds an MA in English/Composition from Arcadia University and a BA in English/Creative Writing from Seton Hill University. She began tutoring for TRIO SSS spring semester 2013.
