Upward Bound's Summer Academy
Upward Bound's annual Summer Academy, which is held for six weeks on the campus of Bloomsburg University, provides preparatory course work (and remedial, where needed), career exploration, social/recreational/educational opportunities, field trips, and a number of other services to 1) strengthen students' academic skills, 2) prepare for the upcoming school year, 3) provide a simulated college experience, and 4) further encourage students' interest in pursuing higher education after high school. Participation is FREE, thanks to the federal funding Upward Bound receives from the U.S. Department of Education. Because of housing, meal, and field trip costs, spaces may be limited and may be assigned based on students' attendance, grades, and participation throughout the school year.
The Bridge Program
A limited number of seniors will be invited to participate in Upward Bound's Summer Bridge Program each year on the basis of their grades, participation in the program, and their postsecondary enrollment. Bridge students take 3-6 courses of BU coursework for FREE while participating in other program events, including workshops, tutoring sessions, and group activities. Students must fulfill all of the program's requirements for seniors in order to participate.
Upward Bound's 2017 Summer Academy will start on Sunday, June 25 and conclude on Thursday, August 3,
