Fast Facts about The Voice

• Bloomsburg University has published a student newspaper continuously since 1923, though it has not always been called The Voice. Earlier names have included The Maroon and Gold and The Campus Voice.
• The Voice publishes every Thursday, starting the second week of each semester. Copies are free to students, faculty, and staff. They may be picked up in the classroom buildings, the Kehr Union, the Commons, and other campus locations.
• The Voice office is located in the Kehr Union, Room 101. It is under the Fireside Lounge. Main production nights are Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Office phone is 570-389-4457.
• Requests for coverage of an event , letters to the editor, or advertisements must be received no later than Monday at 6:00 p.m. to make that Thursday’s paper.
• The Voice is supported primarily by advertising, with partial funding from CGA.
• The web edition may be found at www.buvoice.com. It has been updated for Fall 2009 and will be relaunched in its new format early in October.

Joining the Staff

The Voice welcomes students in all majors to write for The Voice, to do design and photography, and to work in business and advertising. Editors are elected each semester, and dedicated staff members can move up quickly. Once a student has joined the staff, he/she is encouraged to contribute weekly. Deadlines are Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. for features, arts & entertainment, and opinion, and Wednesdays at 4:00 p.m. for news and sports. To join the staff, contact the editor in chief at voiceeditor@huskies.bloomu.edu or come to the office on a production night (Tuesday or Wednesday) to sign up.

Letters to the Editor

All submissions must be typed, no longer than 600 words, and submitted by 6 p.m. Monday to The Voice. Email submissions to voiceopinion@huskies.bloomu.edu. Typed letters may be sent to Opinion Editor, The Voice, Box 97 KUB, Bloomsburg University, Bloomsburg, PA 17815. All submissions must be signed with a phone number and address for verification. Names can be withheld upon request. The Voice reserves the right to edit, condense or reject all submissions.

Advertising

Ads for The Voice must be submitted by 6:00 p.m. Monday to run in that Thursday’s paper. Current rates for display advertising are $6.50 per column inch, $100 for 1/8 page, $200 for 1/4 page, $400 for 1/2 page, and $800 for a full page. A full page ad measures 11.5 inches x 21.5 inches. Ads may be submitted electronically to voiceads@huskies.bloomu.edu. The ad director can also design an ad for a customer or can scan ads submitted in hard copy. To reach the ad director, email the above address or phone 570-389-4557. If no one is in the office, callers should leave a voicemail message.
