Freshmen Language Preference Form

Dear New Bloomsburg University Student:

I invite you to select a foreign language as one of your course choices for Fall 2010. Whether you continue a language from high school or select a new language, this is a great way to:

  • Discover new worlds. Studying a new language, reading other people's stories, and connecting with people in their own language can be a source of pleasure and surprise.
  • Connect with other cultures. Knowledge of other cultures helps you expand your horizons and become a responsible citizen. Knowledge beyond the world of English contributes to your community and your country.
  • Prepare for the future. Studying a foreign language improves your analytic and interpretive capacities and improves entrance exam scores such as the GRE, MCAT, and LSAT. Several semesters of a foreign language on your transcript will also catch the eye of anyone reading your job or graduate school application.

Foreign Language courses count toward your communications, humanities general education, and diversity requirements. Starting a foreign language in your freshman year opens the possibility of using language as a minor or second major later in your college career. A minor in foreign language complements many liberal arts and professional degree programs. Want to know more?
