According to the United States Department of Treasury, 47 percent of individuals living in Pittsburgh experience food insecurities. The Sankofa Community Garden is focused on promoting food self-sufficiency along with address the issue of food apartheid.  Under Jones’ leadership, the Sankofa Community Garden has established programs such as the Youth Community Garden, the Geraldine B. Hill Senior Garden Project and the Farm From a Box program.
