Responsibilities
WHO WE ARE:
Alumni and Professional Engagement (A&PE), in support of the university-wide Professional U initiative, connects students with alumni, employers, and opportunities integrating the academic experience with professional experience in “real world” settings. Through the exploration of professional development topics and experiential learning, students build skills and confidence, which prepare them for personal and professional success upon graduation.

OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Graduate Assistant will work closely with A&PE staff on programs and projects to support the Professional U initiative through actively engaging students and student groups, group presentations, career coaching, event support, program promotion & development, data analytics, and assessment. Duties will include outreach activities, coaching students on their documents and networking skills, assisting with networking with alumni and professional volunteers through LinkedIn, phone, email conversations and other networking opportunities. The successful candidate must have a strong attention to detail with accurate record keeping in collaboration with A&PE staff across the Commonwealth University campuses. 

Requirements
REQUIRED: 
- Acceptance to a Commonwealth University graduate program.
- Self-starter with strong initiative to begin and complete projects while seeking support from supervisor as needed.
- Precise attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines and manage multiple on-going projects.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Strong critical thinking skills to problem solve and address opportunities for growth.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and social media platforms including LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook.

Responsibilities
I am seeking a GA to assist with research regarding data collected on my sabbatical. This will require organizing, transcribing, and cleaning data collected during on-site participant sessions. You will also assist in the creation of conference and workshop presentation materials, reviewing manuscripts and conference proposals, and developing course materials. As an editor for the Journal of Children's Literature, you will assist the editorial team in organizing and tracking manuscript submissions, as well as publication deadlines.

Requirements
This position requires excellent organizational and communication skills, as well as strong writing abilities with particular attention to detail in editing. The ability to self-motivate and complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner to meet deadlines is critical. You will also need to be available to meet with me face-to-face and work on campus when needed.

Knowledge of diverse children's and YA literature, as well as strong research abilities in locating, reading, and synthesizing research-based educational articles is very much preferred.

The Marketing and Communications graduate assistant works with the Division of Strategic Communications and Marketing staff on implementation of strategic marketing initiatives to elevate Commonwealth University’s reputation, manage the brand, leverage the legacy brands of Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, and Mansfield, and support strategic enrollment and student success initiatives to recruit and retain students. The Office of Student Conduct is looking for one Graduate Assistant (GA) for the 2024-2025 Academic Year who will focus efforts on supporting students through the student conduct process. The primary intent of the student conduct process is educational in nature, attempting to create behavioral changes in students while simultaneously protecting their rights and the safety of the campus community. The GA will be will be trained and authorized to weigh information presented in a conduct process, will be assigned cases, and will determine appropriate outcomes for Bloomsburg University students. GA Resources

  • Graduate Assistantships are open to all regularly admitted students pursuing a Master's or Doctoral degree. There are a varying number of assistantships available with each graduate program and in particular departments/offices across the University. Positions are awarded by the Assistant Vice President and Dean of Graduate Studies and Research upon the recommendation of the Graduate Program Coordinators or GA supervisors.
  • Students are granted assistantships for one semester at a time. The appointment and continuation of an assistantship will depend upon good academic standing (minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 prior to appointment and in each semester of appointment), favorable evaluation by the faculty supervising the assistantship and recommendation of the Graduate Program Coordinator. Graduate students who have an assistantship in one program/office are not eligible for an assistantship in a second program/office.
  • BU assistantships are either half-time (20 hours per week) or quarter-time (10 hours per week) and students are required to work 15 weeks in the Fall and Spring semesters, and 12 weeks in the Summer semester. Quarter-time assistants must carry a minimum of nine (9) graduate credits and half time GA’s are required to carry a minimum of six (6). Both quarter and half-time assistantships provide a six (6) credit tuition waiver per semester [non PA residents pay out-of-state tuition and fees]. The waiver does not include undergraduate prerequisite courses, activity fees, health fees, student union fees, recreational fees, or any other charges incurred.
