Jump Start Program

Jump Start is designed to introduce you to campus and expand the skills you’ll need as a first-year college student. You’ll engage in programs and activities that will help you adapt and thrive in your academic, social, and cultural life at Bloomsburg. You’ll receive focused support and guidance from faculty and staff who are committed to helping you succeed – both inside the classroom and in the University community.

Jump Start Program Overview

Your selection for Jump Start means you’ll be invited to join the BU community early, for a sneak-peek at college life— an early avenue to make connections and start building good habits and long-lasting relationships. The program is designed to boost your confidence in your academic work at BU by giving you experience in a college classroom, getting you first-day ready for life as a Husky.

You’ll be able to select from a set of Academic Workshops, and get immersed in a project with dedicated faculty and other students.

You’ll also get help with writing, math, advising, time management, and self-care. And yes, fun social events, too!

In all of this, the program connects you with peers who share your interests and with faculty doing exciting things in their field.

And since you move to campus early, you’ll begin to learn where things are, and what spaces and resources you’ll be using once classes begin.

We can’t wait to get started!

  • Positively impact your confidence in your own academic and social preparedness and readiness for college

  • Provide experience in the rigors and expectations of university life and coursework

  • Build your sense of belonging and your ability to be an active contributor to the university community

  • Connect you to available campus resources supporting your intellectual, psychological, and physical well-being

  • The Jump Start Program comes at no additional cost to you.
  • If you were admitted into the Jump Start Program, then successfully completing the program is required to continue at BU.
  • Jump Start is four days, immediately followed by Welcome Week. As your fellow first-year Huskies begin moving to campus, you’ll participate in more activities with your first-year class as Welcome Week activities shift into full gear.
  • You will have the same housing and roommate assignment from the beginning of the Jump Start Program through the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • The Jump Start Program event schedule will include workshop programs starting in the morning and concluding late afternoon, with evening activities strongly encouraged.
  • Q. DO I NEED TO ATTEND THE JUMP START PROGRAM IN ORDER TO ATTEND BU?
    A. Yes. Jump Start will support you in your transition to college work and life, and because we are committed to your success, the program is a condition of your admission to Bloomsburg.
  • Q. HOW MUCH DOES THE JUMP START PROGRAM COST?
    A. There is no cost to the student.
  • Q. DO I NEED TO GO TO A NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION PRIOR TO ATTENDING THE JUMP START PROGRAM?
    A. Yes: like all BU students, you’re expected to attend Orientation. More information will be coming soon from the Admissions and Orientation office!
  • Q. WHEN DOES JUMP START BEGIN?
    A. Move-in for Jump Start is August 18, 2024. You'll arrive on campus ahead of other students, giving you time to adjust to the campus and make early connections with faculty, staff, and other new first-years!
  • Q. WILL I HAVE A MEAL PLAN DURING THE JUMP START PROGRAM? DO I HAVE TO PURCHASE A SEPARATE MEAL PLAN FOR THIS PROGRAM?
    A. The meal plan you select as you choose your housing is the plan you’ll use during Jump Start. No additional meal plan is necessary.
  • Q. DOES JUMP-START END WHEN CLASSES BEGIN?
    A. No! Though your intensive experience will conclude before the start of classes, Jump Start sessions continue throughout the fall term to prepare you for all the new things you'll encounter as a college student.
