Fundraiser benefits LGBTA Resource Center

LGBTA For immediate release: March 1, 2011

BLOOMSBURG — A silent auction of items ranging from gift certificates for local businesses to vacation rentals will be featured during “It’s Time” on Tuesday, March 22, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania’s Fenstemaker Alumni House.

Tickets are $25 each for the event to benefit BU’s LGBTA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Allies) Resource Center.

Other items to be auctioned will include artwork, jewelry and imported wine, said Gretchen Osterman, co-chair of the event planning committee. In addition, hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be served and awards will be presented.

“This event not only raises funds to support the LGBTA Resource Center, it also supports and promotes diversity and understanding,” said Osterman. “At a time when media attention is on bullying, we sponsor ‘It’s Time’ and other events to raise awareness of LGBT issues and further enhance the Bloomsburg community.”

The provost and social equity office established the LGBTA Resource Center five years ago to help make BU a safe, welcoming place for all students, faculty and staff through education, programming, advocacy and public policy.
