Bloomsburg to celebrate Homecoming

BLOOMSBURG—Bloomsburg, a Commonwealth University, will celebrate its Homecoming, along with Parent’s and Family Weekend on Friday, Oct. 21, and Saturday, Oct. 22. The theme of the weekend is “A Haunted Road Trip.”

The celebration started through the week leading up to Homecoming weekend. Students participated in banner design and rock painting contests, Husky Spirit sidewalk chalking and voting for Homecoming Royalty.

On Thursday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m. will be a Tabletop Tetris and Guess Who tournament in the Kehr Union. Fans will get a chance to “Huddle with the Huskies” on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 6 p.m. at the Quaker Steak and Lube restaurant. The dinner charge is $14.

Homecoming Weekend begins at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21, with the Backyard Bash, and Carnival Lawn Games on Lycoming Lawn. The Class of 1972 50th Reunion runs from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the third floor of the Greenly Center at 50 East Main Street, Bloomsburg. At 6 p.m. there will be Family and Friends Billiards in the Kehr Union Games Room. Mumu Fresh will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Mitrani Hall in Haas Auditorium (tickets can be purchased at www.bloomu.universitytickets.com). At 9 p.m. there will be a Family and Friends Bingo in the Kehr Union Ballroom followed by a Late-Night Pancake Breakfast “Boo-nanza” at 10 p.m. in the Kehr Union Welcome Desk Lobby Lounge. 

On Saturday, Oct. 22, there will be two campus tours; a bus tour beginning at 9:30 a.m. participants will be picked up at the Andruss Library Bus stop and be dropped off at the Fenstemaker Alumni House at 10:30 a.m. The campus walking tour will depart at 10 a.m. from the Fenstemaker Alumni House.  

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Fenstemaker Alumni House will be the Alumni Tent Party sponsored by Liberty Mutual. The tent party will feature food trucks, a beverage tent, silent auction, photo booth, children’s activities, inflatables, music, and more. The first 500 alumni who check in and update their information will receive a free Huskies Rally Towel for the football game.  

The Homecoming football game vs. East Stroudsburg University begins at 2 p.m. at the Danny Hale Field at Redman Stadium. Tickets are required for the game.  Homecoming royalty winners will be announced and the winning Parent’s and Family Weekend essay will be read at halftime. Student-created homecoming banners will be displayed at the game and winners announced as well.

At 6 p.m., the Women’s Volleyball team will play West Chester University at Nelson Field House. In the Kehr Union Multipurpose Rooms, there will be a DIY Crafts program with Stuff a Critter and a CSI Trivia night at 7 p.m. In Carver Hall’s Gross Auditorium, David Anthony will have a Magic Show at 9 p.m. 

The Homecoming festivities will conclude Sunday, Oct. 23, following the Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at 11 a.m. in the Kehr Union Ballroom.
