Dr. Anna Turnage joined the faculty in 2010. Her research interests include rhetorical criticism, organizational communication, communication ethics, and the philosophy and theory of communication technology. She received her BA in Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1989 after which she worked eight years as a newspaper reporter and editor. She then worked in public relations for another nine years before entering graduate school at North Carolina State University, where she earned her masters in Organizational Communication in 2006, followed by her Ph.D. in Communication, Rhetoric and Digital Media in 2010. Her dissertation, Identification and disidentification in organizational discourse: A metaphor analysis of e-mail communication at Enron, explores discourse in e-mails from a database from the now defunct Enron Corporation, analyzing how employees used metaphors to bridge dialectical tensions of power and resistance. She has published articles in The International Journal of Business Communication, The Western Journal of Communication, Communication Quarterly, The Southern Journal of Communication, The Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication and The Communication Review, in addition to a book chapter in Case Studies in Organizational Communication: Ethical Perspectives and Practices. She regularly reviews articles for communication studies journals and various communication studies conferences. She regularly presents at numerous conferences including The National Communication Association, The Southern States Communication Association and the Rhetoric Society of America.
