Dr. Skye Karcher joined the faculty in 2017. She received her Ph.D. in Health and Family Communication from Purdue University. Her research interests lie at the intersections of family and health communication, specifically how families cope with stress as they experience challenging events or transitions. She has examined the associations between family communication patterns and adolescent stress associated with parental military deployment and reintegration. Currently, she is working on a project examining how families battling parental cancer communicate about cancer related topics and how family cancer communication impacts family coping throughout the cancer trajectory. Dr. Karcher’s research has been published in Health Communication, Journal of Family Communication, and Journal of Applied Communication Research. She is also the recipient of the ICA Interpersonal Communication Division 2018 Outstanding Dissertation Award. She is currently teaching Interpersonal Communication and Public Speaking.
